What is the mechanism of the solidification of insulating oil at low temperature

2018/5/15 Viewers:
At low temperatures, the oil will lose its fluidity. The mechanism of solidification is in two ways. One is suspended structure and the other is sticky temperature.
(1) structure solidification. Structural solidification is caused by solid hydrocarbon paraffin dissolved in oil. When the oil is cooled to a certain temperature, the wax molecules attract each other and join together to form the crystal net of the wax. With the decrease of the temperature, the crystal net of the wax becomes more and more. When the crystal net reaches a certain density, the liquid phase will be completely wrapped and lost its fluidity. This kind of oil solidification, strictly speaking, is only a few percent of the wax contained in the oil, and most of the oil is still liquid. However, the precipitation of paraffin crystals is so evenly distributed in the liquid that it completely blocks all the liquid particles, resulting in the loss of fluidity of all oil products.
(2) solidification of viscosity temperature. It is mainly caused by the increase of viscosity of oil at low temperature. If the wax contains little or almost no wax in the oil, the viscosity increases when the temperature is reduced. When the oil is increased to a certain extent, the flowing oil becomes a gel; thus, the fluidity is lost, that is to say, the viscosity temperature is solidified.
