The main significance of measuring oil density on production and operation is as follows. To calculate the weight of the oil in the container, the volume V and the density p of the oil are measured first, then the weight of the oil is calculated according to the product of volume and density.
(1) for the insulation oil used in the power system, as long as it does not affect the other properties of the oil (such as viscosity, flash point), the specific specific gravity is a little better, so that the moisture in the oil and the generated sediment can precipitate quickly to the bottom of the container.
(2) the standard of mineral insulating oil formulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission is not more than 0.895g/cm3, which is the smallest possibility of taking into account the presence of crystal floating ice in outdoor operation at very low temperatures. In addition, the small density is also conducive to the natural circulation heat dissipation of the transformer.
(3) the density is related to the chemical composition of the oil. In the case of the same number of carbon atoms, the density of all kinds of hydrocarbons is very different, and the more the non hydrocarbon compounds, the more the colloid, the greater the density. Therefore, to a certain extent, the composition of oil and the type of crude oil can be roughly judged according to density.
(4) in the process of storage and use of oil, if there is a significant difference between the detected density and the original measurement results, it can help us to judge that the increase of the density of gasoline means that the light fraction evaporates. When mixed with light oil, the density decreases. If mixed with heavy oil, the density becomes larger.
Therefore, the filtration of waste lubricating oil with oil filter plays a great role in improving the quality of oil products.
